Here it is! My new writer’s blog!
Finally.
I say “finally” because getting to this point has been a journey. A three year journey, which sounds like a long time to get a blog started, I know. Let me explain.
Three years ago I came up with the ridiculous idea to write a novel. Well, to be fair, I had the idea way before that, but actually sat down and started it in September, 2011. I was changing jobs, had a week off before starting, and thought “Screw it. Let’s do this.” By the end of that week I had eighteen thousand words of terrible storytelling down. Good ideas, bad writing. Of course, I didn’t know that at the time, but that’s what rewrites and edits are for.
Anyway, once the new job started, the novel got put on hold. For (cringe) two years. I know, I know. Few things are more tragic than wasted time.
So what changed? What made me go back?
New Jersey traffic, of all things.
See, I was a driver and commuted over fifty miles into Jersey City every workday. On the best of days it was over an hour each way, and on the worst, three to four. Two horrific traffic weeks in a row and I’d had enough. Enter riding the train, or as I like to call it, “trapped time”. Suddenly I had an hour and twenty minutes of uninterrupted writing time. Each way. It was (and still is) glorious. Before I knew it, I’d finished my book.
Holy crap. I’ve written a book.
Now what?
Now let’s get it published.
Flash forward to a few weeks ago at the Writer’s Digest Conference in New York City, where I quickly saw that I had a lot of work to do, and not on my book.
There I was, surrounded by hundreds of brilliant, talented people, many of whom, though unpublished, already had their names “out there”. They were enjoying sharing their ideas with the world through their blogs, which everyone acknowledges can only help you in the industry. Fun and useful? I’m in! So, two weeks and a lot of WordPress mistakes later…
Screw it. Let’s do this.
Here it is! My new writer’s blog!
