Friday Morning FYI – 1/8/2016

Welcome to your Friday Morning FYI – my chance to share observations/wisdom/rants in short, easily consumed form.

This week’s FYI was written in Singapore, so comes to (most of) you from 13 hours in the future:

Good news. I’m in the future and there’s no SkyNet. Seems we dodged the bullet. Of course, I could just be from an alternate timeline, so you may be screwed anyway. If so, sorry for the false hope.

Round and round, underground

This little thing popped into my head yesterday, the first half in the afternoon and the second as I shut my eyes in bed last night. I have no idea what it means, refers to, or where it came from (or why the second half wanted those breaks), but, as I’ve done with other inspirations from the ether, I thought I’d toss it up here.

————————————-
In and out
Up and down
Back and forth
Round and round
Underground

Can’t be found

Silken wound

Fox and hound (red and brown).
————————————-

Hmm. The more I read it, the more is sounds like some creepy clue left by a serial killer. I don’t have plans to write a serial killer book, but maybe now that’ll change. *shrug*

Thanks for reading,

Friday Morning FYI – 1/1/2016

Welcome to your Friday Morning FYI – my chance to share observations/wisdom/rants in short, easily consumed form.

Strap in, kids. Personal nonsense ahead:

I normally don’t get sentimental about the new year, but some what-I-call big things happened to me (or around me) in 2015. A relationship ended, and another began. My mother went home, as did my sister-in-law. Books were read and written. A new friend blew in like the autumn’s howl and right out again, and other friends grew brighter in my eyes. Connections were reconnected. Offended a few, will do the same with this post I’m sure, and made some smile.

Obviously not all these things were good, but certainly not all were bad, and each taught me (or made me remember) something. For that I’m grateful.

Happy New Year. May we all continue to learn and grow in 2016, and keep moving forward.

Thanks for reading,

Friday Morning FYI – 12/25/2015

Welcome to your Friday Morning FYI – my chance to share observations/wisdom/rants in short, easily consumed form.

Keeping with my holiday tradition, this week’s FYI is a quote from A Christmas Carol. I think it’s particularly noteworthy this year, with the political climate what it is here in the US of A:

From the foldings of its robe, it brought two children; wretched, abject, frightful, hideous, miserable. They knelt down at its feet, and clung upon the outside of its garment.

“Oh, Man! look here. Look, look, down here!” exclaimed the Ghost.

They were a boy and a girl. Yellow, meagre, ragged, scowling, wolfish; but prostrate, too, in their humility. Where graceful youth should have filled their features out, and touched them with its freshest tints, a stale and shriveled hand, like that of age, had pinched, and twisted them, and pulled them into shreds. Where angels might have sat enthroned, devils lurked; and glared out menacing. No change, no degradation, no perversion of humanity, in any grade, through all the mysteries of wonderful creation, has monsters half so horrible and dread.

Scrooge started back, appalled. Having them shown to him in this way, he tried to say they were fine children, but the words choked themselves, rather than be parties to a lie of such enormous magnitude.

“Spirit! are they yours?” Scrooge could say no more.

“They are Man’s,” said the Spirit, looking down upon them. “And they cling to me, appealing from their fathers. The boy is Ignorance. This girl is Want. Beware them both, and all of their degree, but most of all beware this boy, for on his brow I see that written which is Doom, unless the writing be erased. Deny it!” cried the Spirit, stretching out its hand toward the city. “Slander those who tell it ye! Admit it for your factious purposes, and make it worse. And bide the end!”

Thanks for reading, and Happy Holidays.
