Friday Morning FYI – 9/2/2016

Welcome to your Friday Morning FYI (yes, late again edition) – my chance to share observations/wisdom/rants in short, easily consumed form.

A lot happened this weekend: several peaks, and a single valley of my own carving. That has me tempted to be grotesquely self-indulgent in this FYI, but I’ll spare everyone and instead go with mildly self-indulgent:

Hey guys, I finished the 1st draft of my new book.

Thanks for reading,

Rib Piece

Owl, who sees all and protects against being fooled, including fooled by ourselves.
Brother Crow, who is the keeper of the knowledge of right and wrong.
And Grandmother Spider, who reminds us we live in a world of our own creation.

Bones because in the end that’s all we are (I was going to go with tree branches originally, but if you’ve seen my arms you know I have plenty of vegetation already).
Alchemical symbol for Air because I’m an air sign (Libra), and because why not?

Spirit animal tattoo on my ribs.

Artwork done on 7/30/2016 by the awesome Chris Adamek at Immortal Ink. Photo taken by me the morning of 7/31/2016. If you’re unfamiliar with tattooing, the art will lighten as it heals and more detail will be visible. I just couldn’t wait to show it off 🙂

NOTE for the perspective-ly challenged: yes, the crow tail looks weird in this shot. That’s because it wraps around my back.

Friday Morning FYI – 7/15/2016

Welcome to your Friday Morning Evening FYI – my chance to share observations/wisdom/rants in short, easily consumed form.

This week’s FYI is for the fellas. Sorry ladies, but let’s be honest, the guys need more help 🙂

Lads, go read You: A Novel by Caroline Kepnes. Seriously. Stop reading this post and go get that book. Like, now. Right now. It’s as important for the modern man to read as Fight Club. Yes, seriously.

Thanks for reading,

Friday Morning FYI – 7/1/2016

Welcome to your Friday Morning FYI – my chance to share observations/wisdom/rants in short, easily consumed form.

Last week I wrote about a friend who was hoping to land free tuition to a holistic coaching education program. She didn’t get it (which is bullsh!t in my never-humble opinion) but wasn’t disheartened. “I made a fun, creative video in a really tight deadline. That’s pretty cool, regardless.” (in your head, hear that quote in a New Zealand accent to make it even better) Yes, she did. Even though swinging the tuition on top of  her normal bills will be tough, she didn’t let getting shafted (as her friend I can be bitter for her) get her down. That’s this week’s FYI:

People say how you deal with adversity is up to you. I agree with that, but there’s more to it – starting with always doing your best. When you do, at least you have that, which no one can take away. We writers know this all too well.

PS – Speaking of writing, I’m late this week because I spent every spare moment yesterday finishing the front story for my new book. A few bits of backstory and this bad boy’s first draft will be done 😀

Friday Morning FYI – 6/24/2016

Welcome to your Friday Morning FYI – my chance to share observations/wisdom/rants in short, easily consumed form.

I’m late today because I was helping a friend/coworker record a video. She’s enrolling in a holistic coaching education program that’s offering free tuition to a subset of students, and to qualify you submit a video explaining why you should receive the scholarship. I helped her tighten her (personal) story down for time, and shot her (with her iPhone) speaking against a backdrop of NYC. It was a neat, fun, creative project, and I’m thankful she asked me to help. That leads us to this week’s FYI:

Asking for help can be difficult, especially when it comes to personal stories. Be open to others, listen earnestly, and offer enthusiastic help where you can. That person is trusting you enough to take a chance. Honor that and it will pay off for you both.
