Friday Morning FYI – 8/14/2015

Welcome to your Friday Morning FYI – my chance to share observations/wisdom/rants in short, easily consumed form.

This week’s FYI is a quote ripped from a brief text conversation I had a few days ago with the brilliant Tabitha Lord (follow her blog here). We were discussing pics of us at WDC15 Writer’s Digest posted to their Facebook page, and I noted how great it is she’s always smiling. This was her response:

My trick: I surround myself with people I really, really like 😀

Words to live by, people.

Just playing with a word

Sometimes I like to play with a word, seeing if I can create something from it that has some meaning for me. It’s not an original idea, of course, but is fun. Fun for me, anyway. And sometimes cathartic (like this time).

Here’s one of those short little things I wrote, oh, maybe a month ago. It’s a simple one – you won’t need a cypher to see the pattern 🙂

Catacombed
As all the rest
Taken by surprise
And infected by fathomless eyes
Safe in armor
Tempted but not spent
Regretfully, in the closing hour
Orpheus “loudly singing the praises of the gods to his lyre”
Pulled by that force of nature, still
Home to the fields of lavender
Elegant yet raw, and unreachable.

This week’s FYI is about progressing through life, not regressing:

Sometimes reaching out is just reaching back, and back is never helpful. Forward is the only way to go.

This week’s FYI is a reflective bit of philosophy that came to me one night while eating (dark chocolate) Raisinettes:

All memories have an element of sadness to them. Even the most pleasant recollection brings with it an unresolvable longing; a need to be in that place, in that time, with those people, doing that thing. This is why living ‘in-the-moment’ is so vital to a healthy mind – to combat the bad, haunting points in our past, and to erect shelter from the gravity of the good and great.

Where are you right now?

Friday Morning FYI – 7/24/2015

Welcome to your Friday Morning FYI – my chance to share observations/wisdom/rants in short, easily consumed form.

This week’s FYI is about not-wasting the gifts the universe provides us:

A body laid down for the night in any state other than exhaustion has wasted part (or all) of that day’s unrecoverable harvest. What a shame. And for what? The conservation of energy given us to spend? Nigh-unidentifiable, and certainly unremarkable, “leisure” (it’s for good reason no one remembers periods of lost time-they are an insult to eternity)? Would it not have been better that something worth doing, or, heaven forbid, noting, been accomplished?

Run your tank to empty, let the night refill it, and wake every day welcoming new possibilities.
