Desks and…

Over on Facebook, The Writer’s Circle posted a writing prompt about a chosen hero and a sword. That’s quite specific, which a lot of writers don’t like, but is my favorite type of prompt because I get to try to do something that both meets the prompt and looks at it in a different way. I like how this little banger came out, so decided to drop it here. Enjoy!

Friday Morning FYI – 8/28/2015

Welcome to your Friday Morning FYI – my chance to share observations/wisdom/rants in short, easily consumed form.

This week’s FYI comes from Will Smith. Yes, the Will Smith who did ‘After Earth’. I know. But he posted this to Facebook a few days ago, and it rings true:

The only sustainable relationship between two people is one in which both of you Individually reach for your Higher Selves. If someone is not willing to reach for the greatest, most Awesome, Loving & Productive version of themselves, you must lovingly move on – leaving them behind – trusting them to find their own way.

Thanks Will (and ‘After Earth’ wasn’t that bad).

This week’s FYI comes from a pleasant reflection on a recent but feels-long-ago event:

Reciprocation is not inspiration. When someone does something nice for you, don’t just return the gesture, let it inspire you to something greater.

Here’s something I wrote last week for a writing challenge over at writersdigest.com. Looking at it now, I’d probably move the last five lines to the beginning, but oh well. It got a few nice comments, so I figured I’d toss-it-up here.

And no, I didn’t just use my own name. I’m full of myself, but not that full 😉 “Ron” was one of the words you had to use.

WARNING – This little bugger is sneaky. Parents in particular, be advised – if you’re not in the mood for sad imagery, please do not read.
